How to play

Every day

  • You get five questions. One is about drama talk, one about K-pop and fans, one about food, one about grammar, and one about reading Hangul (the Korean alphabet).
  • Tap an answer. You see right away if it is correct, with a short reason.
  • Tap the speaker button to hear the Korean. For reading questions, the sound comes after you answer, so it does not give the answer away.
  • Korean is often not said the way it is spelled. When the sound is different, you see it in brackets: 입덕 [입떡].
  • After you answer, you can see what other players picked. For many phrases, you also see how polite they are and who you can say them to.
  • One try per day. Everyone in the world plays the same five. A new set starts at 00:00 UTC (9 AM in Seoul).

Answers explained

When a day ends, its five questions get their own page with the answers, the meaning, the sound and the reason Koreans say it that way. Find them in the Archive.

Share with friends

Share result sends one line and a link. Your friend sees your score and plays the same five. They do not see your answers.

Streaks

Play on days in a row to build a streak. For every 7 days in a row, you get one rest day (you can keep up to 2). If you miss a day, a rest day fills the gap and your streak continues. If you miss more days than you have rest days, the streak starts again from zero.

Your streak is saved only in this browser. It does not move to another phone or computer. If you clear this site's data, the streak is deleted.

Archive and world map

Past challenges are in the Archive. Play as many as you like. They do not change your streak. The world map shows which countries played today.

Print and practice

After you play, you can print a practice sheet with the day's Korean words. Trace the grey letters, then write them yourself.

The quiz

The How Korean Are You? quiz gives you one of five types. Your type's category gets a ★ in the daily challenge.
